An electronic dosimeter, from MGP Instruments in France, capable of measuring gamma and neutron radiation has been tested for the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation / Land. Accuracy for dose response, energy response and angular response of gamma radiation were found acceptable. Dose response for neutrons was tested only for thermal neutrons and found to be slightly higher than that required, but still acceptable. The dosimeter withstood drop tests, water immersion and exposure to high/low temperatures. For a sequence of tests consistent with, but not directly required by NDLO’s technical requirements, viz. drop tests, heating to 27°C above room temperature and water immersion, an increased failure rate was observed. Climatic cycling between +70°C, 80 %RH and -40°C revealed some sensitivity to condensing atmosphere, but did not generate major malfunctions of the dosimeters in non-condensing atmosphere. The dosimeter can be used by personnel in all services of the Norwegian Armed Forces to document and control exposure to gamma and neutron radiation.en_GB
