Risikovurdering av Forsvarets bruk av hvitt fosfor i Troms
Abstract
The aim of the report is to unravel potential environmental impacts of white phosphorus (WP) in military training areas
in Troms. Due to contamination of equipment used for analysis of WP in water samples, new samples of water were
taken in July 2006 and analysed for WP. The concentration of WP was below the detection limit for all water samples.
The potential health impacts on humans and grazers that temporary stays in the training areas are assessed. No area is
found to pose an acute or chronic risk to humans, based on the present use of the training areas. Conservative
calculations show that some grazers might stay in the contaminated areas long enough to be exposed for amounts of WP
that can cause toxic effects. Local fauna might also be exposed for amounts of WP that can cause toxic effects.
