In late autumn 2005 a section of the Norwegian Navy went to Senegal to attend to an international exercise. The maps available for the area were partly outdated, and had a smaller scale than was needed. FFI volunteered to provide satellite imagery for a part of the operational area with the motive of testing use of satellite imagery in unknown areas. Commercial satellite imagery from Quickbird was purchased, and both a paper version as well as a digital version of the area were processed. FFI visited the Navy to deliver the imagery and at the same time ensure that the data was useful. During the exercise, however, better prepared material was offered the Navy from their colleagues from the Netherlands, and the imagery provided by FFI was in little used.en_GB
