This report is part of an ongoing effort to improve the ability of the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency (FB) to assess noise pollution from firing ranges. At FFI we are currently developing methods to theoretically predict the sound pressure near the muzzle of a weapon. In this report some of these computational methods are described. The results of the computations are then validated against measurements conducted by FFI during the last year (Huseby, Hugsted, Dyrdal, Fykse & Jordet 2006).
