An exploratory experiment concerning distributed picture compilation and situation awareness was conducted during the military exercise "Battle Griffin 2005". The objective was to explore and evaluate the use of selected technological solutions for the distributed compilation of a common operational picture in network based operations. The participants, 18 intelligence officers, used a technology demonstrator and collaborated in a simulated environment. We used measures of situation awareness to evaluate the teamwork and the technological solutions that the technology demonstrator represents. This paper focuses on methodological aspects and presents the main results. Finally, the paper pinpoints implications for further development of the technology demonstrator and future experimentation.en_GB
