Many of the organoarsenic compounds, such as clark I, lewisite II, phenylarsenic oxide and adamsite, will degrade in contact with water. The hydrolysed compounds have to be derivatised before analysis by GC-MS. Thiols are suitable for derivatisation of organoarsenic compounds. 1-propanthiol in dichloromethane has been selected in extraction and derivatisation of both water- and soil samples as the best method for all the organoarsenic compounds.en_GB
