The acquisition of new combat aircraft represents, according to existing plans, the largest investment of the Norwegian Armed Forces in the next decades. Thus, good estimates on the economic consequences of such an investment project are of significant importance to the Norwegian defence planning process. The report focuses on the following three areas: - Improve consciousness of common pitfalls when comparing cost data on combat aircraft. - Gather available cost data on different types of combat aircraft and estimate a likely level of total acquisition cost per unit. - Estimate Life-Cycle Costs (LCC) of the existing F-16 fleet in the Norwegian Armed Forces, and discuss the use of this estimate to predict the LCC of new combat aircraft.en_GB
