    Abstract
The literature on the fate and transport of PCB in air, soil, water and sediment has been reviewed. The sorption of PCB is primarily controlled by the distribution of organic material in soils and sediments. While the bulk of the PCBs are bound to particles in soils and sediments, the long-range transport of PCBs will occur via water and air. Degradation of PCB in soils and sediments occurs, but is very slow and do not contribute to elimination of these compounds from the environment. In contrast, the degradation of PCBs by reaction with free radicals in the air occurs in a wider extent.
